Checks before you trust an online casino in Britain
Safety is a set of documents you can open, not a feeling you get from a logo. This is the order Pi Media would use before sending a pound to a new site.

Put the register before the lobby
In Great Britain, remote gambling offered to consumers generally needs a UK Gambling Commission operating licence. That is the first filter. A polished lobby, a celebrity, or a British domain does not replace it.
If a number is displayed, search the public register and match the company, the status and the activities. Our note on UK availability explains why “the site loads” is not the same test.
Follow a pound out, not just in
Deposits are designed to be easy. The test is the withdrawal. Read whether the same name must be used, which methods can pay you back, and what happens if documents are requested. A site that will not describe this before you pay in is asking you to discover the rules with your own balance.
Timing factors are covered in withdrawal times. Do not accept a blog’s “paid in an hour” as your timetable.
Terms you should be able to find in one sitting
You should be able to locate the bonus rules, the restricted countries, the complaint route and the safer-gambling tools without a treasure hunt. If wagering, game weighting or a maximum stake while a bonus is active are missing, treat the offer as unfinished.
- Who the legal operator is
- How to complain, and whether an ADR scheme is named
- Deposit and loss limits, and how quickly they bind
- Self-exclusion, including GAMSTOP for licensed GB operators
- A clear 18+ statement
Support is part of the product
Try the help channel before you need it. A published email or chat that answers a plain question about documents is more useful than a score out of ten. Keep records of what you were told if it conflicts with the written terms — the terms usually win.
When you are comparing more than one name, use the same list for each. That method is written up in how to compare online casinos.
Frequently asked questions
Is a UK domain enough?
No. Domain, language and currency show an audience. Authorisation for real-money play in Great Britain is a licensing question. Check the public register when a number is shown.
What if I cannot find a company name?
Stop. You should know who would hold your money before you deposit. An anonymous lobby is not a complete product.
Do safer-play tools have to be visible before I join?
You should be able to read what limits and self-exclusion exist. The switches themselves often sit inside the account, but the description should not be hidden until after you have paid.
